FREETOWN

Roger Dale Pennington, 73, of Freetown, passed away at 5:10 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Roger was born December 20, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Kelly and Zelma Odom Pennington. On February 15, 1970, he married Donna Matlock.

Mr. Pennington graduated from Scottsburg High School in 1967. Shortly after, he enlisted in the United States Army National Guard and received an honorable discharge after his service. Roger worked as a draftsman for Cummins Engine Company until his retirement in 1999.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Donna; sons, Aaron (Melissa) Pennington of Westport, Alan Pennington of Brown County; grandchildren, Hunter and Alyson Pennington; brothers, Wayne Pennington, Dean Pennington, both of Cincinnati, Ohio; sisters, Kay (Rick) Haven, Patty Martin, Lisa Gibson, all of Scottsburg; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Olen Pennington and sister, Clella Pennington.

A memorial visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike. In keeping with family’s wishes, cremation will take place and there will not be a formal funeral service. Due to pandemic restrictions, we are limited to 100 people in our funeral home. We do ask that visitors follow the social distancing guidelines once inside the funeral home and masks are required.

Inurnment will be at Bellsville Cemetery in Brown County.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
