COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus is updating its pandemic response based on new guidelines announced by Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb.
Most city buildings will continue to be closed to the public through April 30, but we will open up most city buildings to the public beginning Monday, May 3. The city will also continue to mandate mask wearing within city facilities at least through April 30.
During April, city business will continue to be transacted; employees will continue to work and answer phones and emails, and will meet with members of the public by appointment only. Residents are asked to call or email the specific department to meet with a staff member.
The following is the status on city buildings:
- City Hall and Police Office Building closed – appointment only through April 30
- Animal Care Building closed – appointment only
- Donner Center Building closed – appointment only through April 30
- Utilities building closed – appointment only through April 30; drive-thru open
- Fire stations closed to the public
- Hamilton Center – open
- Gymnastics Center at FFY – open
- Department of Public Works Building – closed
- Transit – buses continue to run; mask mandate based on federal guidelines
- Parks open
- Aviation offices closed – appointment only through April 30
Virtual meetings will continue through April, live-streamed and available via WebEx.
Mayor Jim Lienhoop asked community residents to continue to take the virus seriously and follow the guidelines from the CDC and the state. Masks, social distancing, good hygiene and avoiding crowds and groups is key to protecting the community’s health and economy, he said. Lienhoop also encouraged residents to get vaccinations when they are able – to prevent the transmission of the virus and help the city get back to normal activities, events, work and social gatherings.
