Letter: Pray for an end to abortion

Bloomington and Columbus

For many decades, a maple tree stood and grew in the grassy stretch between the sidewalk and the street of South College Avenue in Bloomington, Indiana. It overlooked the parking lot and building which is now a Planned Parenthood facility.

The tree, during its lifetime, was a "witness" to many things there at 421 South College Ave. The saddest of those was the "witnessing" of women and young girls coming to Planned Parenthood to have the life of their unborn baby ended by abortion.

Please remember in your prayers all of the innocent unborn babies that have lost their lives, and all those who will not be given a chance at life because of abortion.

Pray too for a change in the hearts and minds of all those involved, directly or indirectly, who have an attitude of supporting abortion at any stage of a developing baby’s life. May they come to recognize and respect the lives of the unborn as precious gifts from God — true miracles of life itself.

Notes:

— The tree, by its own nature, promoted sustaining life for everyone by producing oxygen for them.

— The tree held many religious items that were placed upon it by the people who had come there to pray.

— The tree provided shade from the heat of the sun to those standing and praying beneath it.

— The tree "witnessed" many pro-life prayer events held there.

— The tree also "witnessed" the work of dedicated sidewalk advocates who lovingly would reach out to those women and young girls to explain to them, in a caring way, the truths about abortion & contraceptives.

— As a result of their tireless efforts in doing so, the tree was able to "witness" those very blessed moments when a woman or young girl decided, there at the last minute, against having an abortion and to "choose life" for their precious baby.

The Pro-Life Ministry at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church would like to share a way for all to become a witness for life. Forty Days for Life, Spring 2021, is currently underway.

This internationally coordinated campaign aims to end abortion locally through prayer and fasting, community outreach, and a peaceful, all-day vigil in front of abortion businesses.

We need voices now more than ever to be a "witness" for those who have no voice. Learn more about 40 Days for Life at www.40daysforlife.com/bloomington.

Remember that all of those babies, past and present, need our prayers.

Please pray for an end to abortion. Our Lady of Guadalupe, protect the unborn!
