COLUMBUS, INDIANA
Mary Helen Peterson, 89, a previous resident of Columbus, Indiana and of the Hoosier Christian Village, passed from this life at 11:34 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2021 in the Emergency Department at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, Indiana.
Mrs. Peterson was born August 28, 1931, in Terre Haute, Indiana, the loving daughter of Norman and Josie Glen Robertson Senters. She had a brother John Robert Senters. Mary Helen married K. Bruce Peterson on August 3, 1951. They all preceded her in death.
A life-long learner, Mrs. Peterson obtained a paralegal degree and nursing degree. She worked for many years at the Bartholomew County Hospital and was a private nurse for Elsie Sweeney. She was an accomplished artist; playing the piano and painted many works of art. She loved to read, sew, work puzzles, and enjoyed writing poems and stories. Mrs. Peterson helped establish and was the librarian at her church in Florida. She was a member of Ogilville Christian Church.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her two sons, Michael (Kerry) Peterson of Santa Rosa, California and Martin (Mona) Peterson of Columbus; six grandchildren, Morgan (Heather) Peterson, Alison Peterson, John Peterson and Jason (Tara) Burkhart, Patrick (Grace) Peterson of California, and Kathleen (BJ) Schwein of Columbus; seven great-grandchildren, Franchesca Burkhart, Sierra Burkhart, Noah Peterson, Samuel Peterson, Jacob Schwein, Avery Schwein and Braden Schwein; and three nieces, Terry Peterson, Julie Finley and Dawn Cupp.
A private memorial graveside service will be held in the Garden of Faith at the Garland Brook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ogilville Christian Church Benevolence Fund or to the account of the donor’s choice.
