
Columbus North’s Madi Roop signed a letter-of-intent recently to play volleyball at Emmanuel College.
Roop led the Bull Dogs with 194 kills and 225 digs and had 14 aces last fall in earning team MVP and honorable mention All-Conference Indiana honors.
Emmanuel is a Division II school in Franklin Springs, Georgia. The Lions currently are 9-4 with one match remaining before the Conference Carolinas Tournament.
Lee, Garg win North swimming MVPs
Seniors Christopher Lee and Riddhi Garg have been named MVPs of the Columbus North boys and girls swimming and diving teams.
Daniel Utterback and Karissa Bevis won the boys and girls Bull Frog Awards. DeShawn Austin and Emma Walker won the boys and girls Most Improved Awards.
De Dios named North wrestling MVP
Junior Hector De Dios has been selected MVP of the Columbus North wrestling team.
Bryce Abner won the Bull Dog Award, and Liam Phillips won the Most Improved Award. Cody Thurnall won the Larry Perkinson Mental Attitude Award, and Jason Shuey won the Brandon Shehan award as the team’s outstanding freshman who also displayed excellent sportsmanship and a strong work ethic.
Anthony Johnson won the JV Most Improved Award.
Panthers’ Vogel ties school record
Jacob Vogel’s 17 strikeouts in his 4-0 shutout of Austin on Tuesday tied the Jennings County single-game school record.
Vogel matched the feat of Steve Losey, who struck out 17 against Columbus North in 1973.
East baseball, softball postponed
Columbus East’s baseball and softball games scheduled for today have been postponed because of expected chilly weather conditions.
The baseball game against Zionsville at Noblesville has been rescheduled for April 12 at East. The home softball game against Bloomington North has been rescheduled for April 28.
North to hold football callout
The official callout meeting for next year’s Columbus North High School football team will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the school’s cafeteria for all incoming ninth-through-12th-grade players and their parents.
Also, Adidas Player Pack and Gear orders will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the cafeteria.
Fundraiser to help North girls golf
Columbus North senior Nathaly Munnicha will host a fundraiser for the Bull Dog girls golf program for her senior project.
The CNHS Girls Fundraising Golf Outing will be at 8 a.m. April 18 at Harrison Lake Country Club. Cost is $89 and will include breakfast and a box lunch.
