Bull Dog takes second
INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus North junior Reese Kilbarger-Stumpff went under the old Franklin Central Showcase “Miracle Mile” record Friday night, but took second in a tight finish. Highland’s Lucas Guerra ran 4 minutes, 9.13 seconds to Kilbarger-Stumpff’s 4:09.38.
North’s Matt Newell finished 10th in 4:18.85.
In the girls mile, North’s Mackenzie Barnett took 12th in 5:07.97. Lily Baker was 16th in 5:11.31, and Brianna Newell finished 20th in 5:27.29.
Genesis sweeps Jets
HOPE — Indy Genesis spoiled Hauser’s senior night, sweeping the Jets 74-49 in the boys meet and 78-43 in the girls meet.
Aleck Lopez won the long jump (19 feet 3 inches) and 400 (54.1), and Cameron Scott took the shot put (32-8) and discus (83-7) to lead the Hauser boys. Colin Kistler captured the 3,200 (11:37.1).
Carly Beeker led the Jet girls with wins in the 100 hurdles (18.6) and 300 hurdles (1:05.2). Ashley Chambers took the high jump (4-4), Marnie Schwartzkopf captured the 800 (2:42.9), Grace Hattabaugh won the 200 (31.8) and Hauser took the 4×100 relay (59.7).
BASEBALL
East downs Devils
JEFFERSONVILLE — Will Boyer threw a four-hitter with eight strikeouts and did not allow an earned run to lead Columbus East to a 5-2 win at Jeffersonville.
Josh Luedeke went 2 for 3 for the Olympians (4-4-1), who managed eight hits. T.J. Barkhimer and Ben Major each went 2 for 4.
East’s five runs came on three wild pitches and two Red Devils errors.
Jets topple Chargers
GREENSBURG — Koby Johnson threw a four-hitter and struck out 13 to lead Hauser to a 6-1 Mid-Hoosier Conference win at North Decatur.
Aaron Rork went 2 for 4 for the Jets (3-2, 2-0).
Cougars run-rule Lancers
GREENSBURG — Edinburgh scored three times in the top of the first, but South Decatur scored in all six innings to rally for a 16-6 MHC victory.
Brady Lane went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs for the Cougars (3-6, 2-2), who pounded out 16 hits. Zaydun Sharp went 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs, Wyatt Gatewood went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Evan Wullenweber went 2 for 3, Devin Pate went 2 for 4 with a double, and Avery Seegers and Clayton McNealy each went 2 for 4.
Colin Richardson went 2 for 3 with two RBIs for the Lancers (0-3, 0-2). Jarrett Turner went 2 for 3.
Panthers stop Pirates
NORTH VERNON — Jacob Vogel and Keegan Manowitz combined on a five-hitter to lead Jennings County to a 9-4 win against Greensburg.
Ian Sawyer went 2 for 4 for the Panthers (2-2). Manowitz had two RBIs.
SOFTBALL
Jets avenge defeat
GREENSBURG — Class A co-No. 4 Hauser avenged a loss from a night earlier with a 10-0 MHC win at North Decatur.
Abby Branum went 2 for 3 with a triple, and Reagan Johnson went 2 for 4 with a double for the Jets (7-2, 3-1). Paige McDaniel threw a five-hitter.
Lancers top Cougars
GREENSBURG — Gracie Crawhorn went 2 for 4 with a double and a three-run homer, and Edinburgh avenged and MHC loss to South Decatur at night earlier with a 12-2, five-inning victory.
Carly Cowan went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, and Mackenzie Whetstine went 2 for 4 for the Lancers (4-5, 1-3). MacKenzie Bieker had two RBIs and threw a five-hitter.
Kassidy Haley had a triple for the Cougars (2-4, 1-1).
