Local government and organizations are not the only sectors of the community that have a responsibility to advocate for social change. Businesses also have a social responsibility to advocate for social issues because they directly interact with community populations that are affected by inequity and inequality.

Remaining silent or neutral on social issues imply that businesses support the systems that suppress minorities such as the LGBTQ+, AAPI, BIPOC communities including others. This is hurtful to these communities as businesses use their customers’ spending for their own profit. This cycle will keep continuing if community members don’t hold their businesses accountable.

By not holding businesses accountable, businesses will only benefit themselves and not their customers. It is imperative to be mindful where community members spend their money and where their money is used by local businesses.

This is a demand for local businesses to do better and advocate for issues that systemically hurts their community.
