North Vernon police arrest man who attempted to fight with officers

NORTH VERNON, Ind. — North Vernon police arrested a man on multiple charges, including battery on a police officer and disorderly conduct, after he was accused of fighting with officers during an investigation.

Officers were sent to Hidden Cove apartments at 6 p.m. Tuesday about a battery, where a woman said she had been battered by a person who lives at the apartments, police said.

At this time, the suspect, Roland A. Foust, 65, of North Vernon, called to central dispatch and complained that a woman was dumping her trash in the apartment complex trash container.

During this call, police said Foust became very irate over the phone and began cursing the dispatcher taking his call.

When officers attempted to speak with the female victim, Foust began interrupting the interview after being told not to be disorderly, police said. Foust was accused of attempted to fight when police attempted to detain him, and was accused of attempting to choke an officer during the scuffle, police said. A window in one of the apartments was broken, but the two officers then took Foust into custody, and learned he had a firearm in his possession while fighting with officers, police said.

Foust was arrested on preliminary charges of felony obstruction (interfering with an investigation), battery on a police officer, resisting law enforcement and disorderly conduct, police said.
