Luke Schneider // Columbus North junior golfer
Schneider fired a 2-under-par 69 Saturday at St. Anne’s and won medalist honors on the second hole of a playoff to lead the Bull Dogs to the team title at the Jennings County Invitational.
His performance last week: “I was really happy with how I played. The conditions were not the best, but our team goal was to break 300, so it was really nice to come in with a low score and help my team reach our goal.”
Do you do anything special to prepare? “I usually just eat an egg sandwich and listen to some music.”
Favorite drink: “Dr. Pepper”
Favorite food: “Spaghetti with meatball”
Favorite class: “Pre-Calculus”
Favorite sports team: “Indiana University”
Favorite athlete: “Tiger Woods”
Role model: “My grandpa (Larry Schneider).”
Best advice: “You have to work hard for what you get, and nothing is given. You have to earn it.”
Athletics goal: “To go on to play in college.”
If you could travel anywhere: “Carbondale, Colorado, because of the golf courses there.”

Lillian Mackey // Columbus North junior softball player
Mackey went 1 for 3 with a double in both a 4-3 win over Seymour and in a 10-3 loss to Franklin Central, 2 for 3 with a double in a 7-6 loss to BNL, 3 for 4 with a game-winning walkoff hit in a 5-4 win over North Harrison and 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs in a 20-9 loss to East Central.
Her performance last week: “I think I hit pretty well. I could have done a little bit better, but I dealt with what I was given with the pitch selection.”
Do you do anything special to prepare? “If I know what kind of pitching I’m going to see, I usually try to get some hitting in against that kind of speed or movement. Otherwise, I just hit off a tee.”
Favorite drink: “Tropical Punch Body Armor”
Favorite food: “A good steak”
Favorite class: “Math”
Favorite sports team: “Cincinnati Reds”
Favorite athlete: “Joey Votto”
Role model: “I really look up to my Grandpa (Rick Mackey). He’s really come a long way in life, and I aspire to be like him.”
Best advice: “Just not overthink a play or when you’re up to bat. Do what you do best, trust your muscle memory and don’t think.”
Athletics goal: “I’d really like to end all four years of my high school softball career with a letter and hitting with a high batting average and home runs. Overall, I just want to produce for my team and do the best that I can.”
If you could travel anywhere: “Italy, because I really like Italian food in general, and it’s such a beautiful country. There’s so much to see and so much to do.”
