East boys win invite
SEYMOUR — Crase Bergman won three events and set a school record in the long jump Tuesday night to lead Columbus East to the Seymour Invitational title.
The Olympians scored 145 points in the boys-only meet to 121 for runner-up Seymour. Jennings County finished third with 112 points.
Bergman leaped 23 feet, 8 1/2 inches to break the school record in the long jump. He also won the 400 meters (53.07 seconds) and 200 (23.63) and teamed with Sean Ryan, Ethan Duncan and Malachi Parks to take the 4×400 relay (3:39.55).
Duncan won the 100 (11.47) and teamed with Parks, Mark McDonald and Ryan to capture the 4×100 relay (44.35). Anthony Lloyd took the jigh jump (6-0) for the Olympians.
Jennings’ Zane Ortlieb won the shot put (47-10) and discus (138-2). Gavin Hendrix took the 1,600 (4:40.73), and Lane Elsner captured the 800 (2:07.82) and teamed with Eli Wahlman, Brenden Baker and Aiden Ernstes to win the 4×800 relay (9:02.90).
Jet teams take fourth
BATESVILLE — Hauser’s boys and girls both finished fourth in a quad meet Tuesday at Batesville.
Batesville won the boys meet with 131 1/2 points to 41 1/2 for Jac-Cen-Del, and North Decatur edged the Jets 33-32 for third. Batesville took the girls meet with 100 points to 64 for Jac-Cen-Del, 61 for North Decatur and 12 for Hauser.
Aleck Lopez was the lone event winner for the Jets, taking the boys long jump (18-11 1/2). Lopez also finished second in the 400 (53.27), and Forest Steele took second in the 110 hurdles (17.37).
Marnie Schwartzkopf led the Hauser girls with a third-place finish in the 800 (2:37.87).
GIRLS TENNIS
North remains unbeaten
No. 4 Columbus North added a match with North Oldham, the No. 3-ranked team in Kentucky, and escaped with a 3-2 victory.
Ashlie Wilson beat Willow Renton 6-7 (6), 6-3, (10-2) at No. 1 singles, and Kathryn Wilson downed Reagan Mangan 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles for the Bull Dogs (7-0). Leah George and Sydney Cooper topped Kaitlyn McCraney and Adeline Masters 7-6 (7), 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.
North’s Arya Gotoh fell to Lilih Shallcross 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Jaline Tay and Tiffany Fu lost to Katie Beavin and Emma Beavin 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles.
East falls to Franklin
FRANKLIN — Franklin won four matches by shutout in a 5-0 win against Columbus East.
Katie Hong fell to Rylie Wilkison, Katey Rieckers lost to Ailyn Hendricks at No. 2 singles and Allie Gribbins fell to Emma Williams at No. 3 singles, all by 6-0, 6-0 scores for the Olympians (2-8).
East’s Cathrine Millwood and Shruthika Kumar lost to Hailey Rayl and Chelsie Rayl 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Cassidy Schnur and Monica Burton fell to Haley Haldeman and Emma Sapperfield 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.
Pirates edge Panthers
NORTH VERNON — Greensburg pulled out a pair of three-set wins to claim a 3-2 victory at Jennings County.
Reagan Brown beat Jenna Foster 6-7 (5), 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, and Tatum Brown topped Ella Chapman 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles for the Panthers (9-2).
Jennings’ Carmen Kopitzke fell to Olivia Colson 7-6 (7), 6-7 (5), 7-5 at No. 3 singles. Liz Ertel and Sydney Carson lost to Mollie Pumphrey and Abigail Hoeing 7-6 (5), 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Cassidy Mull and Faith Heaton fell to Janae Comer and Hailey Duerstock 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.
Owls blank Eagles
SEYMOUR — Seymour won three matches in straight sets in a 5-0 win against Brown County.
Julia Williams fell to Brooke Schaffstall 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Anna Tipton lost to Sandy Cerino 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Anna Stogsdill fell to Kirby Hill 4-6, 6-4, (10-8) at No. 3 singles for the Eagles (4-2).
Brown County’s Londyn Koester and Katie Tipton lost to Mallery Moore and Avery Ragon 7-6 (5), 6-7 (8), (10-8) at No. 1 doubles. Mattie Satter and Abi Bowman fell to Madalyn Baurle and Elise Harting 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.
Braves nip Lancers
TRAFALGAR — Edinburgh won a pair of singles matches, but Indian Creek took the other three to post a 3-2 victory.
Bethany Burton beat Zoe Rayback 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, and Jessica Walsh downed Lauren Lewis 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles for the Lancers (2-7).
Annelise Lollar fell to Lauren Foster 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Alyssa Funkhouser and Peyton Bryant lost to Emilee Scott and Olivia Perry at No. 1 doubles, and Gracie Myers and Zoey Sida fell to Avery Burress and Addy Tunell at No. 2 doubles, both by 6-0, 6-0 scores.

Jets down Shiners
HOPE — Hauser broke open a 2-2 game with two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth and went on to post an 8-4 win against Rising Sun.
Aaron Rork went 2 for 3 with a double, Sam Miller went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Kobe Meahl had a double and two RBIs for the Jets (8-4). Clayton West and Alex Pattingill combined on a six-hitter.
Crusaders rout Orioles
INDIANAPOLIS — Gabe Ridder and Jordan Burton combined on a two-hitter, Owen Reed went 4 for 4 with a double, a triple and three RBIs to lead Columbus Christian to a 19-2, five-inning win at Indiana Deaf.
Ridder went 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs for the Crusaders (2-2). Jacob Conrad went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Parker Walden went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and Ethan Nickerson had a triple and two RBIs.
Stars stop Olympians
BEDFORD — Columbus East matched Bedford North Lawrence with seven hits, but the Stars pulled out a 4-3 victory.
Will Rieckers went 2 for 3 with a double for the Olympians (6-5-1).
Panthers beat Braves
BROWNSTOWN — Jennings County built a 3-0 lead and went on to beat Brownstown Central 6-3.
Ian Sawyer went 2 for 3 with a home run and four RBIs for the Panthers (5-4). Carson McNulty went 2 for 4 with a double.
Lancers fall to GCA
EDINBURGH — Greenwood Christian Academy handed Edinburgh its ninth consecutive loss to open the season, an 11-2 setback.
Noah Detling went 2 for 4 with a triple for the Lancers.
BOYS GOLF
North JV tops Hauser
Tyler Wilks and Aditya Banerjee each shot 38 to lead the Columbus North JC to a 164-208 win against the Hauser varsity.
Willy Davis carded a 39, Damon Gregory added a 42 and Michael Gambiani had a 45 for the Bull Dogs. Jack Schiavello, John Ferguson, Alex Clark and Ossian Guess all shot 46, while John Merritt added a 47, Andrew Krueger had a 50 and Brennan Kushner finished with a 58.
Justice Gilliland led the Jets with a 50. Daniel Taylor carded a 52; and Chase Matoccia, Brock Thalls and Jesse Bragg all shot 53. Caleb Wallace added a 54, and Ben Johnson had a 62.
Edinburgh takes dual
EDINBURGH — Trinity Lutheran’s Jacob Sabotin won medalist honors with a 39, but Edinburgh outscored the Cougars 186-195 for the title. Beech Grove and Medora had incomplete teams.
Trevor Moon led the Lancers with a 42. Mason Calhoun carded a 49, Devyn Milburn added a 51, Keegan Smith shot 54 and Cash Cunningham had a 55.
Kade Hill added a 49 for Trinity. Preston Kovener shot 51, and Caleb Williams had a 56.
SOFTBALL
Columbus Christian wins
INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus Christian scored five times in the fifth to break open a 7-7 game and went on to post a 14-10 win at Indiana Deaf.
Kinidy Morgan went 3 for 5 with a double, a triple and three RBIs, Isabella VanCuren went 3 for 5 and Emily Stair had four RBIs and threw a five-hitter for the Crusaders (3-3). Madi Blair added three RBIs, and Hannah Stair added two RBIs.
Tri topples Cougars
STRAUGHN — Class A No. 6 Tri scored 11 times in the fourth inning to pull away for a 16-1, five-inning win against South Decatur.
Loryn Pate and Kassidy Haley had doubles for the lone hits for the Cougars (3-7).
