North girls win quad

SHELBYVILLE — With the Conference Indiana meet coming up on Friday, Columbus North coach Rick Sluder rested several of his top athletes in Tuesday’s quad meet at Shelbyville.

Still the 13th-ranked Bull Dog girls came away with a victory, and the seventh-ranked North boys finished second, just three points out of first.

The Bull Dogs scored 75 1/2 points in the girls meet to 57 1/2 for East Central, 21 for Rushville and 13 for Shelbyville. East Central edged the North boys 75-72, while Rushville had 13 and Shelbyville seven.

Emily Herndon led the Bull Dog girls with wins in the shot put (41 feet, 4 1/2 inches) and discus (111-4). Other winners were Helena Ho in the 100 meters (12.6 seconds), Megan Seager in the 1,600 (5:45), Helen Alderfer in the 400 (1:02.9), La’Monica Smith in the 200 (26.7) and Ellen White in the 3,200 (12:07.9). North also won the 4×100 relay (51.2).

Winners for the Bull Dog boys were Liam Phillips in the high jump (5-6), Tucker Smith in the shot (67-8 3/4, Noah Abfall in the long jump (18-11 3/4), Ryan Fischvogt in the 1,600 (4:52) and Charlie Smith in the 3,200 (10:46.4).

East girls down Cubs

MADISON — Katie Hagan won three events Tuesday to lead Columbus East to an 81-51 win at Madison.

Hagan took the pole vault (8-0), 100 hurdles (17.5) and 300 hurdles (51.7). Other winners for the Olympians were Elise LaSell in the high jump (4-6), Gabi Schuetz in the long jump (15-1), Caitlyn Lucas in the shot (32-5 1/4), Carly Otte in the 1,600 (6:06).

East also captured the 4×100 (53.2) and 4×400 (4:37.3) relays.

Jet teams take fourth

BATESVILLE — Hauser’s boys and girls both finished fourth in a quad meet Tuesday at Batesville.

Batesville won the boys meet with 131 1/2 points to 41 1/2 for Jac-Cen-Del, and North Decatur edged the Jets 33-32 for third. Batesville took the girls meet with 100 points to 64 for Jac-Cen-Del, 61 for North Decatur and 12 for Hauser.

Aleck Lopez was the lone event winner for the Jets, taking the boys long jump (18-11 1/2). Lopez also finished second in the 400 (53.27), and Forest Steele took second in the 110 hurdles (17.37).

Marnie Schwartzkopf led the Hauser girls with a third-place finish in the 800 (2:37.87).

Eagles, Braves split

BROWNSTOWN — Brown County split a dual meet Tuesday at Brownstown Central, with the Eagle boys winning 75-57 and the girls falling 69-56.

Ricky Stanley won the pole vault (12-0) and long jump (18-9), and Chase Austin took the 1,600 (4:52) and 800 (2:10.7) to lead the Brown County boys. Reid Davis captured the discus (130-3), Cameron Fox won the 400 (55.9) and the Eagles took the 4×400 relay (3:44.3).

For the girls, Natalie Suding won the pole vault (8-6) and 100, and Abby Fleetwood took the 1,600 (5:35) and 800 (2:34.7). Ali Majors captured the long jump (11-11 3/4), and Brown County won the 4×800 (10:38) and 4×400 (4:45.4) relays.
