INDIANAPOLIS — As the Indianapolis Zoo prepares to open a new permanent exhibit “Alligators & Crocodiles: The Fight to Survive,” the general public is invited to vote on names for three juvenile male alligators that will be featured in the exhibit.
The zoo has selected three themes — states where alligators live (Al for Alabama, Carl for Carolina, George for Georgia and Tex for Texas); trees and plants in alligator habitat with choices of Cypress, Fig, Glade and Palm; or lyrics from the zoo’s new "Reptile Rhyme," which are Champ, Chomp, Snapper and Swamp.
The poll is now open on the Indianapolis Zoo Facebook page and users may vote once per day. One lucky zoo fan will be chosen at random to receive an Indianapolis Zoo prize package, including four zoo passes and an alligator plush toy.
The new exhibit opens Memorial Day weekend, highlighting the American alligator and the Orinoco crocodile. Visitors will be able to meet and even touch juvenile alligators up close during daily Wild Encounter interactions.
