North wins outright title
BLOOMINGTON — Columbus North wrapped up a perfect Conference Indiana season Tuesday with a 4-0 win at Bloomington South.
The Bull Dogs (16-4, 5-0) scored all four of their runs in the seventh inning. Lillian Mackey had a two-run single, and Emalee Heafner drew a bases-loaded walk.
Maddi Rutan threw a three-hit shutout and struck out nine. Josie Lemmons went 2 for 4 for North, which recorded five hits.
The Bull Dogs defended the Conference Indiana title they won in 2019 and finished unbeaten in their conference for only the second time in school history.
Jets rally past Trinity
SEYMOUR — Trinity Lutheran jumped out to a 7-2 lead after four innings before Hauser rallied for a 10-8, eight-inning victory.
Hannah Taylor went 3 for 5 with a double, Kylie Mack went 2 for 5 with three RBIs, Reagan Johnson went 2 for 5 with a double, Paige McDaniel went 2 for 5 and threw an eight-hitter and Dani Steward went 2 for 5 for the Jets (17-2). Morgan Bottoms and Hannah Johnson each had two RBIs.
Bailey Tabeling went 3 for 5, Dianna Munoz went 2 for 4 and Kamzi Gross went 2 for 5 for the Cougars (9-9). Genesis Munoz had a grand slam.
TRACK AND FIELD
East girls finish third
FLOYD CENTRAL — Columbus East scored 81 points to finish third as a team behind Floyd Central (171) and New Albany (137) in the Hoosier Hills Conference girls meet. The boys meet is on Thursday.
Elise LaSell won the high jump with a leap of 5 feet to lead the Olympians. Caitlyn Lucas finished second in the discus (112-9), and East took third in the 4×400-meter relay.
Jennings County finished eighth with 27 points. Kenna Maschino placed third in the discus (106-1) and fourth in the shot put (34-10).
Cougar boys win MHC
WALDRON — South Decatur and Hauser went 1-2 in the Mid-Hoosier Conference boys meet, and the Cougar girls took second.
South Decatur’s boys scored 126 points to 101 for the Jets and 94 for third-place North Decatur. Southwestern (Shelby) won the girls meet with 155 to 125 for the Cougars and 99 for Morristown.
Ian Frensemeier won the shot put (46-0) and discus (113-5) to lead the South Decatur boys. Trevor Newby finished second in the 1,600 (5 minutes, 15.67 seconds) and 3,200 (11:27.01), Kelby Shook took second in the 400 (55.83) and the Cougars were second in the 4×800 relay (10:04.27).
Forest Steele led the Jets with wins in the 110 hurdles (17.56) and 300 hurdles (46.66), and Aleck Lopez took the 400 (54.20) and finished second in the long jump (18-11). Hauser took second in the 4×400 relay (3:53.38).
The South Decatur girls got second-place finishes from Zoe Meer in the shot (26-11), Lana Bell in the discus (85-9), Maria Nobbe in the 300 hurdles (54.35) and its 4×100 relay (57.45).
Marnie Schwartzkopf won the 800 in 2:39.59 to lead the Hauser girls to a sixth-place finish with 49 points. Carly Beeker took second in the 100 hurdles (18.12).
Edinburgh’s boys (23 points) and girls (10 points) both finished seventh. Malkia Willard finished third in the girls discus (78-7), and Enrique Cajellas was fourth in the boys 110 hurdles (20.06).

North falls to Carmel
CARMEL — No. 2 Carmel handed No. 4 Columbus North its first loss of the season in a battle of two of the state’s top teams.
Kathryn Wilson blanked Lelia Antony 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles for the Bull Dogs (12-1).
North’s Ashlie Wilson fell to Emma Brune 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 at No. 1 singles, and Siri Poludasu lost to Nora Perkins 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Jaline Tay and Tiffany Fu fell to Hallie Reeves and Alexa Lewis 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, and Leah George and Sydney Cooper lost to Kaitlyn Conley and Anjali Natarajan 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.
Braves blank Jets
HOPE — Indian Creek won four matches in straight sets in a 5-0 win at Hauser.
Andie Clark fell to Lauren Foster 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Bella Kilps lost to Zoe Grayback 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Kaitlynn Everroad fell to Lauren Lewis 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 at No. 3 singles for the Jets (7-5).
Hauser’s Aunaka Wasil and Emily Harker lost to Emilee Scott and Olivia Perry 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. Charlie Clark and Gabby Johns fell to Avery Burris and Addy Tunell 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.
Eagles edge Artesians
MARTINSVILLE — Brown County pulled out a three-set win at No. 1 singles to claim a 3-2 victory at Martinsville.
Anna Tipton beat Shelby Craig 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 singles for the Eagles (7-7). Anna Stogsdill topped Eliza Ostler 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, and Londyn Koester and Katie Tipton downed Erica Hebrick and Katie Fulkerson 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles.
Brown County’s Julia Burt fell to Alyssa McGauley 6-4, 3-6 at No. 3 singles. Mattie Satter and Abi Bowman lost to Sasha Broan and Lauren Leonard 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.
Lancers down Jackets
EDINBURGH — Edinburgh pulled out a pair of third-set supertiebreakers to claim a 4-1 MHC win against Morristown.
Bethany Burton beat Beth Hodgin 6-3, 6-4, (10-3) at No. 2 singles, and Jessica Walsh topped Ryeland Brewer 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 singles for the Lancers (3-9, 2-3). Alyssa Funkhouser and Peyton Bryant downed McKinley Kile and Brianna Batton 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Zoey Sida and Gracie Myers defeated Sarah Essex and Abby Mendoza 6-7, 6-2, (10-5) at No. 2 doubles.
Edinburgh’s Annelise Lollar fell to Emma Theobald 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.
BOYS GOLF
Jets outscore Eagles
NASHVILLE — Two Hauser players and one Brown County player tied for medalist honors in the Jets’ 208-246 victory.
Hauser’s Chase Martoccia and Justice Gilliland and the Eagles’ Cooper VanNess all shot 46. The Jets’ Daniel Taylor added a 54, while Ben Johnson had a 61 and Brock Thalls and Jesse Bragg each shot 62.
Clay Austin added a 59 for Brown County. Jordan Burnett shot 69 and Dylan Taylor had a 72.
Panthers take fourth
SEYMOUR — Jennings County finished fourth in a quad meet at Shadowood. Floyd Central won with a 160 to 171 for 171 for Seymour, 173 for Madison and 185 for the Panthers.
Jack George led Jennings with a 44. Jake Grider carded a 45, Brett Silvey added a 47, Rowan Cook had a 49 and Chad Gasper and Tanner Stearns each shot 54.
BASEBALL
Lancers get first win
EDINBURGH — Edinburgh scored 14 times in the first inning and went on to post its first win of the season 1 14-1 victory against Crothersville.
Noah Detling threw a two-hitter and struck out 12 for the Lancers (1-14). Jarrett Turner went 2 for 2 with a double; Riley Palmeter went 2 for 3 with a triple and two RBIs; Gabe Bennett went 2 for 3 with a double and Ian Buchanan, Landen Burton and Nick Detling all had two RBIs.
Mohawks nip Cougars
WALDRON — South Decatur scored six times in the top of the first, but Waldron rallied for a 12-11 MHC win.
The Cougars (8-7, 5-3) were limited to three hits.
