One year after the entire spring sports seasons were canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the IHSAA is set to begin postseason play in those seven sports for the first time in two years.
The postseason gets under way on Tuesday with girls track sectional action. All of the Bartholomew County schools will be at Franklin for Tuesday’s girls sectional and at Columbus North for the May 20 boys sectional.
The Columbus North girls tennis sectional will begin Wednesday and continue through May 21. All five schools in the sectional are area schools — North, Columbus East, Hauser, Brown County and Edinburgh. The draw is Monday evening.
Hauser begins softball sectional play May 24 at Rising Sun. East and North will be in action May 25 at Shelbyville. The final at Rising Sun is scheduled for May 27, and the final at Shelbyville is set for May 28.
North and East will open baseball sectional action May 26 at Bloomington North, where the final is scheduled for May 31. Hauser will play in the Jac-Cen-Del Sectional semifinals on May 31. The final is that same day.
The girls track regional is May 25 at Franklin, and the boys track regional is May 27 at Warren Central. The girls tennis regional is May 25-26 at Bloomington South, and the semistate is May 29 at Jasper.
Softball regional action will be June 1, and semistate softball is June 5 at Center Grove (Class 4A) and North Daviess (Class A). Baseball regional for local schools will be June 5 at Jasper (4A) and Morristown (A).
The state track and field meets are June 4 for boys and June 5 for girls at Ben Davis. Unified track sectional is May 22 at Bloomington North, regional is May 29 at Bloomington North and state is June 5 at Ben Davis.
State softball is June 12 at Center Grove. Semistate baseball is June 12 at Mooresville or Jasper, and state baseball is June 21-22 at Victory Field in Indianapolis.
The boys golf sectional for Bartholomew County schools will be June 4 at Greensburg Country Club. The regional is June 10 at Champions Pointe in Henryville, and the state finals are June 15-16 at Prairie View in Carmel.
Hendershot to run track at DePauw
Columbus East senior long jumper and hurdler Lynna Hendershot plans to continue her track and field career at DePauw University.
Hendershot will participate in a signing ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Friday in the East High School commons.
East, North to host football camp
Columbus North and Columbus East football coaches Tim Bless and Eddie Vogel and their staffs will host a Middle School Football Camp for current sixth- and seventh-graders who will be entering Grades 7 and 8.
The camp will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday at North and Tuesday and May 20 at East. This will not be a full-contact camp, and players will take part in drills stressing the safest, most fundamentally-sound techniques.
Cost is $50 and includes a t-shirt. Walkup registration will be available from 6 to 7 p.m. May 17 at North.
