East tops JC for fifth

NORTH VERNON — Columbus East pounded out 14 hits on its way to a 10-5 win at Jennings County Friday in the fifth-place game of the Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament.

T.J. Barkhimer went 2 for 2 with a double, Will Rieckers went 2 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs, Parker Harrison went 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs, Harry Major and Alex McComb each went 2 for 4 and Josh Luedeke went 2 for 5 with a double and two RBIs for the Olympians (9-10-1). Ben Major also had two RBIs.

Ian Sawyer went 4 for 4 with two doubles for the Panthers (10-7), who managed 13 hits. Austin Martin went 2 for 3, and Carson McNulty went 2 for 4 with a double.

Will Boyer pitched the first 6 2/3 innings to pick up the win for East.

Braves blank Lancers

TRAFALGAR — Carter Modlin threw a five-inning perfect game to lead Indian Creek to a 10-0 win against Edinburgh.

The Braves scored once in the first and broke it open with eight in the second against the Lancers (1-15).

Olympians edge Cubs

Columbus East pulled out a three-set win at No. 2 doubles to claim a 3-2 victory against Madison in the HHC Tournament seventh-place match.

Cathrine Millwood beat Trinity Stoner 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, and Katie Hong blanked Grace Pittman 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for the Olympians (3-14). Shruthika Kumar and Katey Rieckers topped Taylor Harsin and Hailey Jenkins 6-7 (2), 7-6 (3), 7-5 at No. 2 doubles.

East’s Ayano Nomura fell to Kourtney Neukam 6-2, 7-6 (3) at No. 1 singles. Cassidy Schnur and Monica Burton lost to Paige Sentney and Erin Burkhardt 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles.

Panthers down Stars

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County won the HHC Tournament fifth-place match with a 4-1 victory against Bedford North Lawrence.

Reagan Brown blanked Rachel Kidd 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Tatum Brown beat Emily Duncan 5-7, 7-5, (13-11) at No. 2 singles and Carmen Kopitzke downed Becca Epping 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles for the Panthers (12-7). Liz Ertel and Sydney Carson topped Isabella Stigall and Mallory Pride 7-5, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.

Jennings’ Cassidy Mull and Hannah Green fell to Kenley Craig and Izzy Aldredge 6-4, 7-5 at No. 2 doubles.

Lancers rout Braves

EDINBURGH — Mackenzie Bieker went 3 for 4 with two home runs and five RBIs and threw a three-hitter to lead Edinburgh to a 20-1 win against Indian Creek in the opening round of the Johnson County Tournament.

Kyah Streeval went 4 for 5 with a home run and two RBIs for the Lancers (11-9). Gracie Crawhorn went 3 for 3, Kaitlyn Bailey went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, Catey Streeval went 2 for 3 with a homer and two RBIs, Carly Cowan went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Shelby Graham added two RBIs.

Edinburgh advances to play in the semifinals at Center Grove at 10 a.m. today. The winner will face the Whiteland-Franklin winner for the title at 12:30 p.m., also at Center Grove.
