Bull Dogs win twice
CHARLESTOWN — Columbus North notched a pair of lopsided wins on Saturday, beating Class A No. 5 Lanesville 12-2 in five innings and host Charlestown 16-0 in five innings.
Maddi Rutan went 3 for 3 with a double, a home run and four RBIs and allowed only one hit in four shutout innings to pick up the win against Lanesville. Kelsey Lovelace went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs, Emalee Heafner went 2 for 2, Lucy Norman went 2 for 3 and Lillian Mackey had a double and two RBIs.
Norman went 2 for 2 with a triple, Meghan Waggoner went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs and Rutan had a homer and six RBIs against Charlestown (19-4). Cowan, Peri Foust and Waggoner combined on a two-hit shutout.
Olympians go 1-2
GREENFIELD — Columbus East bounced back from an 8-4 loss to Greenfield-Central and a 5-0 loss to Seymour with an 8-2 win against Frankton in Greenfield’s Cougar Classic.
Bailey Todd went 3 for 3 with two RBIs, and Mackenzie Sigman went 3 for 4 against Greenfield. Julia Sitterding went 2 for 4 with a double, and Kaitlin Brummett went 2 for 4.
After being held to two hits against Seymour, the Olympians (6-16) pounded out 15 against Frankton. Kenzie Foster went 4 for 5 with three RBIs, Kerigan Greathouse went 3 for 4 with a triple, Todd went 2 for 3 with two doubles, Sigman went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and Brummett went 2 for 4. Kaylee Smith and Megan Kennedy combined on a nine-hitter.
Jets fall to Trojans
ST. LEON — Hauser saw its 13-game winning streak come to an end with a 6-0 loss at East Central.
The Jets (19-3) were held to three hits.
Panthers lose, win
SHELBYVILLE — Jennings County bounced back from a 15-1 loss to Fishers with an 18-4 win against Cambridge City Lincoln in Shelbyville’s Golden Bear Invitational.
After being limited to two hits against Fishers, the Panthers (10-15) notched 14 against Cambridge City. Tori Lee and Skylar Weber each went 3 for 4, Brooke Mowery and Shelby Wilson each went 2 for 3 with three RBIs, Abby McDonald had a double and three RBIs and Kenzie Matern added two RBIs. Wilson threw a seven-hitter.
GIRLS TENNIS
North nets third
INDIANAPLOLIS — No. 4 Columbus North wrapped up its regular season with a third-place finish in the North Central Invitational. The Bull Dogs beat No. 10 Jasper 4-1, fell to No. 9 Homestead 3-2 and beat No. 15 Fort Wayne Carroll 4-1.
Ashlie Wilson at No. 1 singles and Kathryn Wilson at No. 2 singles each went 3-0 for the day for the Bull Dogs (14-2). Kathryn Wilson lost only one game in three matches.
Jaline Tay and Tiffany Fu at No. 1 doubles and Leah George and Sydney Cooper at No. 2 doubles went 2-1. Arya Gotoh went 0-2, and Siri Poludasu went 0-1 at No. 3 singles.
Jets, Lancer win brackets
WALDRON — Hauser’s No. 2 doubles team and Edinburgh’s No. 2 singles player won their brackets at the Mid-Hoosier Conference individual tournament.
Hauser’s Gabby Johns and Charlie Clark were the winners at No. 2 doubles, and Edinburgh’s Bethany Burton captured the No. 2 singles title. The Jets’ Aunaka Wasil and Emily Harker finished second at No. 1 doubles and joined them on the All-Conference team.
Hauser’s Bella Kilps made it to the semifinals at No. 2 doubles. Andie Clark at No. 1 singles and Kaitlyn Everroad at No. 3 singles fell in the first round.
Panthers blank Braves
NORTH VERNON — Jennings County celebrated its senior day with a 5-0 win against Brownstown Central.
Reagan Brown beat Ava McKinney (BC) 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Carmen Kopitzke topped Emily Mann (BC) 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Faith Heaton downed Jenna Bolte 6-7 (5), 6-3, 10-2 at No. 3 singles for the Panthers (13-7).
Jennings’ Liz Ertel and Sydney Carson defeated Hanna Hackman and Chelsea Luedeman 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles Cassidy Mull and Hannah Green blanked Lexie Satterthwaite and Lydia Luedeman 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.
BASEBALL
Braves upset Bull Dogs
TERRE HAUTE — Class 4A No. 1 Columbus North will have to share the Conference Indiana title with Bloomington South after falling 10-2 at Terre Haute South.
The Braves scored six times off Bull Dogs starter Will Baker in the second inning and led 8-0 before North (20-3-1, 4-1) got on the board in the fifth.
Zach Wager went 2 for 2 for the Bull Dogs. Kyler McIntosh had two RBIs.
Jets are runner-up
CHARLESTOWN — Class A No. 10 Hauser beat Charlestown 7-3 in the semifinals before falling to South Dearborn 6-0 in the title game of the Charlestown Invitational.
Sam Miller went 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs, Aaron Rork went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Bryce Trotter went 2 for 3, Aaron Rork went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Kobe Meahl went 2 for 4 against Charlestown. Eli Miller threw a four-hitter.
The Jets (15-9) outhit South Dearborn 8-7, but allowed five unearned runs. Eli Miller went 2 for 3.
Panthers split pair
NEW ALBANY — Jennings County beat Bloomington South 4-3 and fell to host New Albany 9-2.
Keegan Manowitz went 3 for 4 with a double, and Lane Zohrlaut and Cole Sigler each went 2 for 3 against Bloomington South. Logan McIntosh pitched two perfect innings of relief to pick up the win.
Manowitz went 2 for 3 with a double for Jennings (11-8) against New Albany.
BOYS GOLF
Bull Dogs take eighth
LEBANON — No. 9 Columbus North finished eighth with a 326 in the Brownsburg Invitational at The Trophy Club. No. 5 Fort Wayne Carroll won with a 304, followed by No. 2 Carmel at 306, No. 8 Hamilton Southeastern 307 and No. 6 Bloomington South, No. 3 Center Grove 308, No. 4 Zionsville 310 and No. 10 Penn 319.
Luke VanDeventer led the Bull Dogs with a 78. Luke Schneider carded an 80, Jacob Niedbalski added an 83, Tyler Wilks shot 85 and Aditya Banerjee had an 86.
Jack Schiavello played as an individual and finished with an 84.
Eagles finish 11th
GOSPORT — Brown County finished 11th with a 440 in the Western Indiana Conference Tournament at Rolling Meadows. Northview won with a 311, and Greencastle was second with a 319.
Cooper VanNess led the Eagles with an 83. Clay Austin added a 109, Jordan Burnett shot 113 and Dylan Taylor had a 135.
