Feature Focus: Brian’s picks

The Columbus Symphony Orchestra will present a virtual recital at 7 p.m. May 25 on the ensemble’s Facebook page of Columbus Symphony Orchestra of Indiana. Featured performers are CSO musicians the Henrichsen Family String Orchestra, trumpeter Paul Hunt and violinist Phil Palermo, and Carlos Lopez, the winner of the orchestra’s Laura Showalter Concerto Competition. Darren Li, the runner-up in that competition, also will be included. Information: csoindiana.org

Sometimes music can be the ideal go-to for relaxing and unwinding. If you’re wanting to kick off a mellow weekend, folk/Americana artist Kevin Stonerock is a good pick. He will perform a free concert at 6 p.m. Friday on the Bartholomew County Public Library Plaza, 536 Fifth St. Organizers describe his easygoing performance style as “having a conversation on the front porch with an old friend.” They also add that his original, roots-oriented songs bridge the gap between folk, country and rock and roll. Attendees must bring their own chair and are encouraged to social distance. You can also view the concert at facebook.com/mybcpl. Rain will turn the show into a virtual one only.

3) The Columbus Farmers Market along First Street in downtown Columbus behind city hall is a pretty popular way to shop for food and more, visit with friends, or catch a few tunes of live music in the great outdoors of spring. Plus, there’s ready-to-eat food and desserts for those who would like just a quick bite. The weekly event, which recently got off to a solid seasonal start, is held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., rain or shine.
