Machavariani, Kulkarni lead Club Olympia at FAST 500

Club Olympia Swim Team finished fourth with more than 900 points in last weekend’s FAST 500 Invitational. hOST Fishers Area Swim Team won the meet, followed by the Dayton Raiders and Mason (Ohio) Manta Rays.

The meet featured more than 500 swimmers representing 22 teams from Ohio, Illinois, Indiana and Pennsylvania. Club Olympia’s 33 swimmers combined for 87 top-10 and 55 top-five finishes.

Leading the way for Club Olympia were 8-year-olds Tony Machavariani and Shreyan Kulkarni. Machavariani had a perfect weekend with 10 wins in the 8-and-under Division, including the 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke, 50 backstroke, 100 backstroke, 50 butterfly and 100 butterfly. Kulkarni competed in the same events, finishing in the Top three in all 10.

Vivan Shah had five top-10 finishes in the 8-and-under 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 50 backstroke, 100 backstroke and the 50 butterfly.

In the Open Division, Ashley Freel had top-five finishes in seven of her 10 events — the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 400 freestyle, 800 freestyle, 100 butterlfy, 200 butterfly and 400 IM.

Brady Beyer won the Open Division 50 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke and took second in the 200 breaststroke. He also had top-five finishes in the 200 IM and 400 IM. Maggie Johnson and Olivia Morlok combined for seven top-10 finishes.

In the 13-14 Division, Hope Westphal had top-five finishes in eight of 10 events — the 50 butterfly, 200 butterfly, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 400 freestlyle, 800 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 400 IM. Misha Machavariani had top-five finishes in the 50 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, 400 freestyle, 800 freestyle and 400 IM. Todd Hundley scored four top-10 finishes.

The 11-12 year olds were led by Connelly Furnish and Joshua Pendleton. Furnish had seven top-five finishes in 10 events — the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 400 freestyle, 800 freestyle, 50 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke. Pendleton had five top-10 finishes in his six events, including top-fives in the 200 IM and 400 freestyle.

Sanaa Kulkarni and Zoie Chandelkar combined for four top-10 finishes. Other Club Olympia Athletes competing included Pratt Badve, Ivanka Chandelkar, Cole Ehara, Cassidy Furnish, Ethan Hall, Vidita Keskar, Nandini Kondhare, Ty Mayer, Annie Murer, Judah Nickoll, Lovely Panda, Brookyn Pendleton, Lily Pendleton, Rylan Perkins, Aashka Shah, Cavan Stilson, Saanvi Vibhuti and Dathan Wolf.

Club Olympia swimmers last week commenced training in the Donner Aquatic Center 50-meter outdoor pool as they prepare for several large meets in Indiana, Ohio and Wisconsin during June and July, followed by the Indiana Swimming championship meets in late July and Central Zones, Futures and the Speedo National Championships in August.
