Gregg L. Barnes, 46, of Greenwood, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, May 22, 2021 at his home.

Gregg was born April 27, 1975, in Columbus, Indiana, the son of Phillip M. and Linda G. Begley Barnes.

He graduated from Columbus North High School and attended Franklin College. Mr. Barnes worked for over 14 years at Cummins Engine Company, becoming a Team Leader. He enjoyed family gatherings, was a hard worker, and was an avid sports fan, cheering on Reds baseball and IU basketball. Our hearts are filled with love and gratitude for his life. We hope he knows how much he was – and is – loved by everyone who was fortunate enough to cross his path in life. He will always be in our hearts and memory.

Survivors include his daughter, Sarah Barnes of Columbus; step-children, Hillary Newby, also of Columbus, Ryan Hatch of Bloomington, Emily Hatch of Richmond; parents, Phillip and Linda Barnes of Franklin; brother, Derek Barnes and sister-in-law, Rachel Barnes of Franklin; grandchildren, Taven, Dresden, Aerilyn, June, Lachlan, Ellie; nephews, Ethan, Jackson; nieces, Samantha, Lucy; grandmother, Nancy Barnes; a host of cousins, aunts, uncles and former wife, Shannon Barnes, also of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bige Barnes, Clay and Nettie Begley.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Brent Fox officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Bethel Baptist Cemetery.
