Jennings man killed in crash northeast of Seymour

A Jennings County man died late Tuesday in a crash northeast of Seymour.

The wreck that led to the death of Leroy L. Cherry, 45, also left Jill L. Henry, 38, also of Jennings County, hospitalized in critical condition with a severe head injury, according to a news release from Jackson County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Adam Nicholson.

Henry was flown by StatFlight air ambulance to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis after the crash, which was reported at 9:13 p.m. on County Road 800N just east of County Road 1200E.

Jackson County Coroner Paul Foster pronounced Cherry dead at the scene.

The wreck occurred as Henry was driving west on County Road 800N and lost control of her white 2001 Ford Ranger for unknown reasons, Nicholson said.

The vehicle then slid sideways and left the north side of the road, rolled several times and came to rest on the driver’s side in the driveway of a home. Henry was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

Deputies Jordan Hawn, Alan Jones and Aaron Wilkins initially responded to the wreck along with personnel with Jackson County Emergency Medical Services and the Redding Township Volunteer Fire Department.

Nicholson was called to the scene to handle the crash investigation, which is ongoing. Chief Deputy Dustin Steward assisted with that investigation.
