Letter: What party do our congressmen represent?

With Rep. Greg Pence’s latest vote against the forming of a Jan. 6 bipartisan commission to investigate the incidents leading up to and including the riots which occurred on Jan. 6, I think we can now accurately say that we have three parties represented in Washington.

We have the Democrats, who unanimously voted to form the commission; traditional Republicans, who also unanimously voted to form the commission; and the Trumpublican party, of which Rep. Greg Pence seems firmly planted, who unanimously voted to not investigate anything to do with Jan. 6.

Common sense informs any reasonable-thinking person that what occurred on Jan. 6 should be investigated to fully understand the events that occurred up to and on that dreadful day. The only reason that anyone would vote against the commission would be to protect party members from incurring any responsibility for what happened on that day.

Let me say it again: The only reason that anyone would vote against the commission would be to protect party members from incurring any responsibility for what happened on that day.

A decision that has a foundation in common sense is based on reason, knowledge, experience and such.

A decision which is based on Trump-sense is based on none of that. It lies solely with the musings of the former president. All Trumpublicans understand and operate using this form of reason, so it should not really be surprising to anyone why Rep. Pence voted the way he did even though his own brother was dangerously singled out on that day.

Rep. Pence has repeatedly demonstrated where his allegiances are. He is no Republican, he is not a conservative. He is a full blown Trumpublican and thus not only embraces, but perpetuates any and all crazy and unhinged musings of the former president, including the big lie about the 2020 election and its direct link to the capitol riot of Jan. 6.

Of course the Trumpublican party does not want it investigated.

You will not see Rep. Pence, or any Trumpublican worth his or her salt on Capitol Hill pushing back against anything the former president says, regardless of its veracity. No, you can count on them to silently go along supporting the former president’s absurd rantings — like a loyal Trumpublican should.

True conservatives, like Liz Cheney, Mitt Romney, Adam Kinzinger, Ben Sasse, to name just a few, are firmly grounded in conservative principles with no room for the entertaining of the rantings of a mad man.

Integrity, decency, and honesty are not optional in the Grand Old Party — emphasis on old now. Note they are not optional in the Democratic Party either. The absence of these characteristics are only viable in the newly formed Trumpublican party, where loyalty to the man trumps all other characteristics.

In what party will our two senators align? The upcoming Senate vote on the same issue will provide the answer.
