On April 29, Brad Barnes, director of Bartholomew County Court Services, was recognized at the Justice Services Conference, presented by the Indiana Office of Court Services, for having received the 2021 Order of Augustus.
The Order of Augustus is an honorary award presented annually by the Probation Officers Advisory Board of the Judicial Conference of Indiana to those persons in the profession of probation whose commitment and personal dedication have exemplified the ideals and philosophy of John Augustus, the undisputed “Father of Probation.”
The creed of John Augustus was “To raise the fallen, reform the criminal, and so far as my humble abilities would allow, to transform the abode of suffering and misery to the home of happiness.”
Barnes has worked in the field of probation since 1987 and has served as the chief probation officer in Bartholomew County since 2003. Among his duties, Barnes serves as the coordinator for the Drug Recovery Court and the Veterans Treatment Court. He was nominated for the award by his peers and the judges of Bartholomew County.
