COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus police officers arrested a local man on numerous charges after a traffic stop in east Columbus early Monday morning.
At approximately 12:03 a.m., CPD officers stopped a vehicle near Indiana Avenue and Gladstone Avenue that was driven by Dana E. Jackson, 51, of Columbus, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
While speaking with Jackson, the officers noted that his eyes were bloodshot and his speech was slurred. The officers administered several field sobriety tests that Jackson did not pass, Harris said. A police canine was requested and later alerted to the odor of narcotics inside Jackson’s vehicle.
When the officers conducted a search of Jackson’s vehicle, they located methamphetamine and marijuana along with drug paraphernalia inside, Harris said.
Jackson was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital for a blood draw. At the conclusion of the blood test he was placed under arrest and later remanded to the Bartholomew County Jail on the following preliminary charges:
- Possession of Methamphetamine
- Possession of Marijuana
- Possession of a Controlled Substance
- Possession of a Legend Drug
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated
- Driving While Suspended (Prior Conviction)
- Operating a Vehicle Without Receiving a License (Prior Conviction)
