2:30 P.M. UPDATE
Columbus police officers are investigating a fatal stabbing that occurred at a Columbus apartment complex early Tuesday morning. Shortly before 6 a.m., CPD officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1000 block of Robert Drive, at the Quail Run Apartments, in regards to the incident, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
When officers arrived at the apartment, they located an adult male with multiple stab wounds. The injured man was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital where he died of his injuries a short time later.
Bartholomew County Coroner Clayton Nolting identified the victim as Eric Cavanaugh, 19, of 1075 Robert Drive, Apartment B, at the apartment complex.
An autopsy completed this afternoon at Columbus Regional Hospital revealed that Cavanaugh died of multiple sharp force injuries to his back and chest, believed to have been inflicted by a chef’s knife, Nolting said.
During the course of the investigation, CPD detectives arrested Daniel J. Denny, 19, of Columbus. He was remanded to the Bartholomew County Jail on a preliminary charge of Murder, a Level 1 felony. Denny remains incarcerated with a 48 hour hold as law enforcement officers continue their investigation.
