Letter: Lucas setting wrong example

In a Republic article last week, Rep. Jim Lucas stated that he was not going to get vaccinated against COVID. His reasons were that due to his age, health, and level of fitness, he was in low risk of dying from the disease.

What Rep. Lucas has failed to grasp is that masks and vaccines are not just about protecting oneself — they are about protecting others too; because, if you don’t get the virus, then you can’t unwittingly give it to someone that is high-risk.

Public servants are supposed to be about serving the public.
