Indianapolis man arrested on drug-related charges after traffic stop

Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies arrested an Indianapolis man on multiple drug charges including dealing in methamphetamine after a traffic stop at 1:01 a.m. Thursday.

Deputies initiated a traffic stop at 10th Street and National Road and said they observed suspicious behavior from occupants.

K9 Argo alerted to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle, deputies said.

Deputies located approximately 30 grams of methamphetamine, pills and spice on the driver who identified himself by a false name. Once he was correctly identified as Mark A. Elkins, 59, Indianapolis, he was found to have an outstanding warrant out of Marion County, deputies said.

Elkins was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of: Dealing in methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of cocaine or a narcotic drug and the Marion County warrant.

Elkins remains in BCJ without bond, jail officials said.
