Redevelopment commission elects new officers

Following the recent death of President Sarah Cannon, the Columbus Redevelopment Commission has voted in new officers.

Al Roszczyk, formerly vice president, will now serve as president. Kyle Hendricks is the new vice president. Don Trapp was re-appointed as secretary.

Roszczyk said that he hopes to lead as well as his predecessor, and city officials took a moment of silence to honor Cannon’s memory at Monday’s commission meeting.

Cannon died on June 2, while serving as commission president at the time. She had retired as vice president of First Financial Bank and financial advisor for Raymond James Financial Services in September after finding out she had non-small cell lung cancer. Cannon was involved in many community boards during her lifetime.

"Sarah was a true ambassador for the redevelopment commission and the city of Columbus," Roszczyk said. "I’ll certainly miss her leadership, her guidance and her friendship."

Redevelopment Director Heather Pope added, "Sarah’s continued commitment to this commission and the community, despite her diagnosis, is one that I will carry with me always. She gave willingly of her time. She was a mentor and a friend, one that I will miss and cherish."
