LOUISVILLE — An Edinburgh woman was killed in a wrong-way crash early Monday morning on Interstate 64 in Louisville.

Shortly after midnight, a BMW was driving east in the westbound lanes of I-64 near Third Street when it hit a Saturn Vue in the westbound lane head-on, Louisville Metro Police said.

Following the initial collision, the Saturn was hit by a semi-tractor trailer in the rear.

Rachelle Hinkle, 42, the front-seat passenger in the Saturn, died at the scene, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.

The Saturn’s driver was transported to University Hospital with life-threatening injures and two juvenile passengers were hospitalized at Norton Children’s Hospital with injuries.

The BMW driver was taken to the hospital with “minor injuries” and the driver of the semi-tractor trailer “declined treatment,” according to LMPD.
