Feature Focus: Brian’s picks

1) Call me a crusty curmudgeon, but I have a short fuse for fireworks in my neighborhood for nearly all the month of June. However, I love the community’s annual, patriotic fire in the sky come July. This year, that means "QMIX Radio Musical Fireworks: Back With a Bang! Vaccinate. Celebrate!” at 10 p.m. Friday at Columbus Municipal Airport. Sure, it’s unfortunate that food and games vendors can’t be there because of continuing COVID-19 concerns, but at least the heart of the celebration gets to return. Information: qmix.com

2) Give it a whirl: Midnight Madness begins at 8 p.m. Friday at the Bartholomew County 4-H Fair midway with an $18 wristband. If you’ve got "the ride stuff," what can be better than the spins, turns, dips and more of some of the topsiest-turviest contraptions ever created. Also, Saturday’s Last Blast on the midway begins at 2 p.m. with $30 wristbands.

3) Over the years, I have profiled enough Elvis acts to keep newspaper readers all shook up. But I still have an appetite for more, and I suspect others do, too. Tyler Christopher will present his Presley show at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Brown County Playhouse, 70 S. Van Buren St. in Nashville. His concert presents The King during three separate time periods of his career. Information and tickets: browncountyplayhouse.org.
