Parker Harrison clubbed a two-run homer Sunday to help the South to a 7-5 win over the North to complete a three-game sweep in the annual North-South All-Star Series in Evansville.
The Columbus East graduate’s homer came in the third inning in the wooden-bat game at historic Bosse Field. Columbus North grad Kyler McIntosh pitched the first three innings for the South, allowing four runs on five hits, with three strikeouts and one walk.
The South swept Saturday’s doubleheader, winning 7-6 and 5-3 at University of Evansville. McIntosh had an RBI in Game 2.
Harrison is headed to Wright State, and McIntosh is headed to Alabama State for college baseball. Ben McDaniel, who resigned after coaching the Bull Dogs the past eight years, was an assistant coach for the South squad.
Christophel’s catch makes SportsCenter Top 10

Logan Christophel’s diving catch in center field on Tuesday night was selected as the No. 8 play of the day on ESPN’s SportsCenter Top 10.
Christophel, who will be a senior at Columbus East, was playing for Team Kentucky in a win against Team Mississippi in an Underclass tournament in Alabama. Christophel and a couple of his travel teammates had joined Team Kentucky after it was short on players.
Hammel named state Coach of Year finalist
Kendal Hammel was named one of five state finalists for the state’s Girls Tennis Coach of the Year award.
Hammel led Columbus North to a 20-3 record and conference, sectional and regional championships this spring. The Bull Dogs were ranked in the top five in the state for most of the season.
VanDeventer moves to Central as new AD
Nathan VanDeventer, who spent the past year as assistant athletics director at Columbus North, is taking over as the new AD at Central Middle School.
VanDeventer, a North graduate, takes over for Alex Engelbert, who left to become assistant principal and athletics director at Waldron High School.
North girls holding free Youth Soccer Skills Camp
The Columbus North girls soccer team is holding a free Youth Soccer Skills Camp. The camp continues from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and July 14 at the new BCSC Soccer Complex for girls ages 7 to 13.
Each session will focus on individual skill development through small-sided activities. Players will be coached by current and past North players.
