PopCon Indy celebrates eighth anniversary July 9-11

INDIANAPOLIS – Geeks, gamers and superfans are uniting again under the banner of PopCon Indy, Indianapolis’ celebration of all things pop culture.

The extravaganza is back for its eighth anniversary July 9-11, and they’ve raised the bar for the first public event at the Indiana Convention Center in 2021.

The three-day event will welcome more than 20 special guests, including several big-name celebrities, YouTube sensations, TikTokers, gamers and creators from all aspects of pop culture.

Attendees can meet Emily Swallow from hit series "Supernatural" and "The Mandalorian," Holly Marie Combs from "Charmed" and "Pretty Little Liars," Kate Flannery and David Koechner from "The Office," Jim O’Heir from "Parks and Recreation," Jim Cummings, the voice actor of "Winnie the Pooh and CJ" and Richie Ramone from The Ramones, just to name a few.

PopCon continues to bring some of the largest names in pop culture to Indianapolis, but the event’s true mission is to give creators of all kinds a platform to find new audiences. Instead of focusing on one specific fandom, PopCon Indy flips the script on the typical con experience by focusing on all genres of fandom.

“At its core, PopCon Indy is a celebration of Indianapolis and everything our great city has to offer. Unlike other conventions that visit Indianapolis, PopCon originated right here in our city, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to be back with some exciting new activities for our eighth year,” said Carl Doninger, president of PopCon Indy. “PopCon Indy prides itself on being open and accepting of everyone, which is why we focus on a variety of different fandoms. There truly is something for everyone at PopCon.”

In honor of PopCon Indy’s eighth anniversary, the convention will include its second annual hybrid International Film Festival starting July 8. General admission ticket holders can enjoy more than 65 films from all over the world at the convention center or stream from home.

In addition, attendees will have access to laser tag, a virtual reality arcade, board and video gaming, Ultimate Cosplay Championship, podcast live stage, Twisted Toonz, more than 2,000 square feet of Lego displays, public evening party on Saturday and more – all with a general admission ticket. PopCon is also family-friendly, with interactive areas throughout, kids cosplay contest and fun, educational opportunities the whole family can enjoy.

PopCon understands that while many are excited about an in-person event this year, others rightfully have concerns. The decision to move forward wasn’t taken lightly, and all participants’ safety and well-being are of utmost importance. Therefore, all COIVD-19 rules and protocols will be followed as set by Marion County and the Marion County Department of Health.
