COLUMBUS, INDIANA
Barbara Elkins, 89, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, left for a better place on July 3, 2021.
Barbara was born on June 25, 1932, in North Vernon, Indiana, the daughter of Merle E. Schierling Elkins and Earl W. Elkins.
She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in North Vernon. She graduated from North Vernon High School and took additional classes at Indiana University and IUPUC.
Her career was spent in finance. She started with Union Bank & Trust Co. She also worked at CP Electronics, Daniel Hayden Electric Co., Irwin Management, and Cummins Engine Company from which she retired in 1987.
Barbara’s community involvement included Bartholomew County Library Associates, Columbus Dance Workshop, and Columbus Regional Hospital volunteer. She was a current member of Grace Lutheran Church.
Barbara is survived by her brother, E. Robert Elkins; nephew, Ronald (Charlotte) Elkins; niece, Cynthia (Robert) Imel; great-nieces, Leah and Morgan Elkins; great-nephews, William (Megan) Imel, and T.J. Imel.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 8, 2021, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street; Pastor John W. Armstrong will officiate.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Barbara will be laid to rest in the Garden of Devotion at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, Faith Lutheran Church or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
