Stepping up: New bishop committed to same focuses he’s had as a pastor

Despite a new title and responsibilities, Bishop David C. Bosley remains committed to the same focuses he has highlighted for some time as a pastor: “strengthening the faithful … through studies and insight into the word (of God),” and highlighting Celebrate Recovery as a means of overcoming harmful behaviors, hang-ups and addictions.

The Columbus resident was consecrated a bishop recently during Higher Ground Always Abounding Assemblies Holy Convocation, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. The assemblies organization is under the leadership of the founder and Prelate Sherman S. Watkins, Vice Prelate Bishop T.D. Jakes and Second Vice Prelate Bishop G. Staples.

Because of a growing number of bishops in the denomination, Bosley’s governing territory within the Midwest region of Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and Michigan is still being determined. A reception related to his new appointment is expected to be in September.

In the meantime, Bosley, founder and pastor since 2003 of Dayspring Church of God Apostolic in Columbus, understands that he has work to do to promote his priorities he believes God wants tackled.

“I would say we’re at a status quo (with strengthening),” Bosley said.

The new bishop, who frequently preaches or teaches in something of a throwback, oratory style, and almost always from notes on an iPad, encourages technological tools such as Bible phone apps to conveniently help believers strengthen faith throughout their day. And he finds himself heartened to see that the 51-year-old assemblies’ numbers of followers are growing.

“That says to me that God is still working,” Bosley said. “Growth becomes a matter of what we’re doing to reach out.”

The denomination’s mission statement, according to Watkins, is “to take ordinary people, with ordinary backgrounds and introduce them to an extraordinary savior who will forever change their lives for the better.”

To help people step into change, in the past, Bosley has led events and workshops such as envisioning and following dreams. His advocacy of programs such as Celebrate Recovery is based on simple reasoning.

“I realize that we all have issues that we must overcome,” he said.

Apart from his ministerial duties, Bosley serves as president and lead project development manager at Aeroflux.
