Vehicle pursuit leads to arrest in North Vernon

NORTH VERNON — A Madison woman is facing multiple charges after a vehicle pursuit led to her arrest in North Vernon.

Cara Ross, 49, faces Level 6 felony charges of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle and criminal recklessness with a vehicle, as well as a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving, following an incident Thursday evening.

At 8:46 p.m., officers with the North Vernon Police Department witnessed a Toyota pickup truck driving recklessly while traveling northbound on State Road 7, NVPD Sgt. Andrew Richmond said.

After almost causing another vehicle to crash, an NVPD officer activated his emergency lights and siren and caught up to pickup, which was being driven by Ross, Richmond said.

Richmond said the officer recorded speeds at about 85 mph, and after catching up to the truck and attempting to signal it to stop, the driver began to waive an obscene finger gesture out of the window at the officer.

After requesting assistance, deputies with the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department deployed a tire-deflating device in the area of County Road 500N, Richmond said. The pickup’s tires were then disabled and stopped just before County Road 800N, and Ross was taken into custody, he said.

Richmond said that police determined Ross, who initially gave a false identity to officers, was not intoxicated during the incident.

Ross was transported to the Jennings County Jail, where she was still being held as of Friday afternoon.
