David Wiley, age 78, passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at 3:12 a.m.

He is survived by his wife, Diane, of Columbus. He is also survived by his two sons, Mark and Christopher; 4 grandchildren, Wren, Autumn, Cyprys, and Jing Hui; his brother and sister-in-law Wendell and Brenda from Brevard, North Carolina. David is survived by numerous cousins in Kentucky, Ohio, Illinois, and Virginia.

He was born in Hardy, Kentucky and grew up in Paintsville, Kentucky. David graduated from Paintsville, Kentucky in 1960. He was a baseball catcher on his high school team and played three years on the Paintsville Semi-Professional Baseball Team.

He graduated from Indiana University with a B.S. in Business in 1964 and a MBA in 1965.

He was preceded in death by his father, George, and his mother, Verla Wiley.

David spent 6 years on active duty and active Army Reserves and was assigned to an Artillery Regiment.

He was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He worked at Cummins for 15 years in Cost Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Financial Planning, Financial Analysis, and Product Pricing. He owned a Safeguard Business Forms Distributorship until he retired in 1999.

David enjoyed watching baseball on television and going to Cincinnati to see the Red’s play baseball. Also, he liked to watch college football and basketball on television. He played golf until medical issues caused him to quit the game he loved.

He enjoyed reading books on history, business, and life histories such as Andrew Carnegie, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, John Rockefeller, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and Michael Dell.

His favorite music was Reggae, especially Bob Marley, and Southern Blues, particularly BB King and Muddy Waters.

He enjoyed watching the Science Channel on television and was fascinated with the series about the Universe.

Family and Friends may gather for Visitation on Saturday, July 24 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Myers-Reed Chapel. A funeral service will immediately follow at 7 p.m. with military honors provided by the Bartholomew County Honor Guard.

David will be laid to rest in the days following at St. Joseph Cemetery in Reynolds, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations in David’s name be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
