Fundraiser being held for Columbus man with rare brain tumor

Staff Reports

Jay McCracken, a Columbus native, had his life changed when he was diagnosed in January 2021 with a tumor in the third ventricle of his brain.

In April 2021 he had a very risky biopsy surgery which confirmed a Central Neurocytoma tumor. This type of tumor is extremely rare and comprises about 0.1% to 0.5% of all brain tumors.

Because of the location of the tumor, in the middle of his brain, traditional brain surgery was not an option.

In June 2021 he underwent Gamma Knife Radiosurgery, a radiation treatment that uses precisely focused, high-dose beams aimed at the tumor.

McCracken has been unable to work for several months due to his symptoms caused from the tumor.

A fundraiser will be held at 5 p.m. on Aug. 14 at Terrace Lake Church, 4260 W. County Road 200S, Columbus to help support him.
