Staff Reports

Columbus police officers arrested a local man suspected of operating a vehicle while intoxicated after he was involved in a crash early Saturday morning.

At approximately 12:20 a.m., CPD officers responded to the 1100 block of Phoenix Court in regards to a property-damage crash where one person had left the crash scene, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Officers located the other damaged vehicle in the 1100 block of Central Avenue a short time later. When they spoke to the driver, who was later identified as Edward A. McAllister, 46, of 845 Werner Ave., he falsely identified himself to the officers at the scene, Harris said. While speaking to McAllister, the officers noted that he had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and observed that his balance was poor.

McAllister was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital where officers applied for and were later granted a search warrant for a blood draw. At the conclusion of the blood test McAllister was placed under arrest and was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where he was remanded on the following preliminary charges:

  • Three Bartholomew County warrants
  • Possession of methamphetamine
  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction
  • False informing
  • Leaving the scene of an accident
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

McAllister was being held in jail in lieu of $115,500 bond, jail officials said.
