Exhibit Columbus celebrates city’s legacy

Richard McCoy

We’re so excited to be creating another exhibition of Exhibit Columbus in the heart of the city.

Artists and designers are right now building their installations all around downtown.

Please consider this letter an invitation to come downtown and explore what’s happening and get ready for the public opening on August 21!

We try our best to make an exhibition that invites you to explore, play, think, and reflect on this amazing place. This year we are looking both inwards and outwards through the theme, “New Middles: From Main Street To Megalopolis, What Is The Future Of The Middle City?”

There are more than a dozen new installations that will take on this question and show you a response.

For a city of just over 50,000 it’s really amazing to have this kind of thing happening right here.

Everyone in the organization is grateful for all of the support that we receive — from contributions, to in-kind donations, to volunteer hours. We build all of this with the community, and when it all goes just right, it’s a kind of collaborative magic trick to make the installations appear in just a few short days.

Sure, I’m biased, but I think this is going to be the best exhibition ever.

Will it be like year’s past with a “Conversation Plinth,” a giant Wigwam, a huge cornfield, or flowers everywhere? Come find out for yourself! Opinions, comments, and feedback are welcome as this whole program is for our Columbus community to enjoy and invite others to consider.

As an organization we aim to live up to the standards of excellence that were put in place by such visionary leaders like Vida Newsom, J. Irwin Miller, and James K. Baker.

Those are legendary names around here, but that’s our intention: to put all of what makes Columbus and this area on display for everyone to see. To invite you and anyone to celebrate the legacy of this place, and to bring your friends and family in town to visit.

We’d love to have you get involved with it all! There are volunteer opportunities throughout the month of August and throughout the rest of the year. This is a great way to get some hands-on experience with Exhibit Columbus and the cultural heritage of this place.

Please feel free to contact me if you’re interested or have any questions.
