Elizabethtown man accused of fleeing accident scene and deputies

Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies arrested an Elizabethtown man on multiple charges after he was found driving a stolen Jeep and was then accused of fleeing from officers.

Staff Reports

An Elizabethtown driver was arrested Tuesday after being accused of fleeing the scene of an accident at 5:16 p.m. near the area of State Road 7 and South County Road 525E, which involved a motorcycle crash with injuries.

While traveling to the accident, Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies were told that a maroon Jeep had been involved in the motorcycle accident and had fled the scene. Deputies located the Jeep at a service station at State Road 7 and U.S. 31.

The driver, identified as Brandon Dye, 29, Elizabethtown, fled into a field behind the building as officers arrived, deputies said.

A sheriff department K9 was sent and, a short time later, Dye was located at a residence on South U.S. 31, deputies said.

During the investigation, deputies found the Jeep had been reported stolen from Jennings County a short time prior to the crash. It was also determined that Dye, while traveling north on State Road 7, had struck two vehicles and the motorcycle all also traveling north on State Road 7.

As the Jeep turned into the gas station, Dye struck a parked vehicle and fled the scene, deputies said.

Two motorists were transported to Columbus Regional Hospital and Dye was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on the following preliminary charges:

Three counts of leaving the scene of an accident

Two counts of leaving the scene of an accident with injury

Intimidation with a deadly weapon

Possession of stolen property

Dye was being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $67,500 bond.
