Juvenile arrested following school threat

A 17-year-old juvenile was taken into custody shortly before noon today after he reportedly made threats which resulted in a local high school implementing “lock out” procedures as a precaution.

Columbus Police Department school resource officers were made aware of a non-specific social media threat of violence involving a gun Wednesday morning and began an investigation with the assistance of Columbus Police Department detectives, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

During the investigation, law enforcement officers determined that the alleged threat was directed towards a person who is not a student and the lock out procedures were lifted at Columbus East High School.

Detectives located the juvenile suspect at a Columbus home shortly before noon Wednesday where he was taken into custody. The juvenile was transported to the Bartholomew County Youth Services Center where he was being held on preliminary charges of Level 6 felony intimidation and being a runaway.
