Local driver arrested on drug-related charges after traffic stop

Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies arrested a local man on drug-related charges after a traffic stop at 2:17 a.m. Thursday in the 13000 block of North U.S. 31.

Deputy Dylan Prather made the traffic stop, and during the stop, sheriff department K9 Szabi alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from inside the vehicle, deputies said.

The driver, Darrin Bryant, 35, of 13500 N. U.S. 31, exited the vehicle and told Prather that illegal narcotics and a syringe were inside the vehicle, deputies said.

Bryant was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of:

Felony possession of methamphetamine

Felony possession of a syringe

Misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia

Misdemeanor possession of controlled substance

Misdemeanor possession of controlled substance

Bryant remains in jail in lieu of a $60,000 bond, jail officials said.
