Joseph Leroy Reitman, 90, of North Vernon passed away at 9:44 PM on Friday, August 13, 2021, at Schneck Medical Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Rev. Shaun Whittington will officiate. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday with a Rosary service being conducted at 3:30 PM at Sawyer – Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service.

Born on October 24, 1930, in Camp Springs, KY, Leroy was the son of Joseph F. and Eleanor Wolbers Reitman. He married Ruth Coffman on February 15, 1958.

Leroy graduated from Vernon High School in 1950. He served in the United States Army from 1951 – 1953. After his service he worked at Cummins Inc. until he retired in 1987. After retiring, he drove a school bus for Jennings County Schools until May of this year.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and a former member of the Lion’s Club.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Reitman of North Vernon; daughters, Kathryn Phillips of Hartsville, Linda (Louie) Cribb of Middleburg, FL, Patricia (Mike) Nash of Independence, CA, and Leanna Maschino of Sparks, NV; sons, David (Nagela) Johnson of Madison, AL, Michael (Sandra), Paul (Darla), Eddie (Vickie), Phillip Reitman of North Vernon, and John (Janet) Reitman of Virginia Beach, VA; sister, Mary Ann (Bill) Sheets of Louisville, KY; twenty-three grandchildren, and twenty-one great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Reitman, sisters-in-law, Delores Reitman and Eileen Whitaker; brother-in-law, Glenn Whitaker; grandson, Duane Cribb.
