FRANKLIN
Carl R. Williams, 93, passed from this life on August 14, 2021 at Morning Pointe Assisted Living in Franklin, Indiana. He was born in Bartholomew County on July 18, 1928. Carl was the son of Glen C. Williams and Gladys Fisher. Carl graduated from Columbus High School. He spent time in the Navy during WWII before being honorably discharged. He married Nancy Davenport on October 16, 1949.
He started his work life working on cars and helping at his brother’s neon sign company. His permanent career was as a fireman for the Columbus Fire Department. During his off hours he worked at Columbus Hardware.
Carl enjoyed painting concrete sculptures, square dancing, ballroom dancing and tennis. He had a great sense of humor. When asked how he felt, he always said “with my fingers”. His manners were lovely and everyone appreciated his kindness. Carl and Nancy led Awana programs for many years. They also were teacher assistants to teach English to Hispanic children while vacationing in Texas annually. He was a member of First Baptist Church and Berean Bible Church.
Survivors include his wife of over 71 years, Nancy; children, Beverly (Lynn) Hoeltke of Seymour, Debra (Dan) Williamson of Whiteland; Jeff Williams of Indianapolis; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; half-brother, Ronnie Williams.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters and a brother.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Dr. Daniel Cash officiating. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home. A live stream of the funeral service may be viewed at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at barkesweaverglcik.com.
Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
