Anderson man arrested after traffic stop

An Anderson man was arrested early Monday morning after Columbus Police officers located stolen property in his vehicle during a traffic stop.

At around 2:22 a.m. Monday, a CPD officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by William Streeval, 35, near the area of 16th Street and Lafayette Avenue after observing a license plate violation, said Sgt. Alyson Eichel, Columbus Police Department spokeswoman.

A CPD K9 alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, officers located five syringes and a reciprocating saw in the passenger compartment, along with a handgun, two magazines, and a catalytic converter in the trunk, Eichel said.

A credit card and a Garmin brand GPS that had been previously reported stolen through CPD was also recovered and returned to the owner.

Streeval was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail, where he was remanded on the following preliminary charges:

  • Possession of legend drug injection device
  • Possession of stolen property
  • Unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon
