North’s Bennett commits to Marian

Columbus North senior Sarah Bennett has committed to continue her volleyball career at Marian University.

Bennett is a four-year starting middle hitter for the Bull Dogs. She has been an All-Conference Indiana selection the past two seasons.

This summer, Bennett was part of the Circle City VBC 17 Black team that finished 11th in its division in the USA Volleyball Junior National Championship in Las Vegas.

CN hosts Youth Football Night

Columbus North will host its annual “Youth/Middle School Football” night for all area football players (Northside and Central Middle Schools, Bartholomew Bears and PAAL) at its Friday game vs. Southport.

Game time is set for 7:00 pm. Players are encouraged to wear their game jerseys or team t-shirts, enter the stadium through the Team Gate and arrive by 6:15 pm for a tour and brief presentation. Players will be recognized on the field at halftime.

North, East JV to play

The Columbus North and Columbus East junior varsity football teams are set to square off after twice being postponed.

The Bull Dogs and Olympians JV were scheduled to play Saturday, but that was moved to Monday after Friday’s varsity game was postponed to Saturday. Then, they were canceled because of lightning on Monday.

The North and East JV now are scheduled to play at 11:45 a.m. Saturday at East. That will follow a 10 a.m. game between the East freshmen and Seymour JV.

Jets doing fundraiser

The Hauser athletics department is conducting a fundraiser involving yard signs. Anyone who makes a donation of any amount the the athletics department can receive a “Proud Supporter Hauser High School Athletics” yard sign.

Contests rescheduled

The Hauser at Edinburgh boys tennis match that was postponed because of rain on Monday has been rescheduled for 4:30 p.m. Friday, and the Southwestern (Shelby) at Hauser boys tennis match that was scheduled for Tuesday has been moved to Sept. 10. The Oldenburg Academy at Hauser boys soccer game that was scheduled for Monday was postponed to Sept. 9.

The Columbus East at Jennings County volleyball game that was postponed Tuesday while the Panthers are in quarantine has been rescheduled for Sept. 20. Jennings’ game at Seymour that was scheduled for tonight has been moved to Oct. 2.

Also, East’s boys tennis match that was scheduled for Sept. 15 against Greensburg has been canceled because the Pirates are in quarantine.
