Fred Scudder, 85, formerly of Columbus, passed away peacefully September 20, 2021, at Three Oaks Hospice Care in Fort Worth, Texas after experiencing a stroke in August.
He was born August 22, 1936, in Jefferson County (IN) to the late Claude and Lucille Scudder. Fred was a 1954 graduate of Paris Crossing High School in Jennings County.
Fred was employed at Cummins Engine Company over 50 years before retiring. He began his career in the factory working on the burr bench. By retirement he had been promoted to sales in various distributorships in Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, and Texas.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Judy Satterwaite Scudder; children LeAnn Scudder of Fort Worth, Texas and Mark (Marsha) Scudder of Indianapolis; stepchildren Dena Manning of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Susan Holter of Salt Lake City, UT, Denise Gasmire, of Granbury, TX, Bradley Wilhite of Celina, TX; grandchildren Matthew and Kyle Scudder, Travis and William Manning, Ellen Holter, Samantha and Ty Gasmire, and Kyle Wilhite; great-granddaughters MacKenzie, Ava, and Jolee Scudder; siblings Pat (John) Gerth, and Keith Scudder; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Fred was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Simmons, of Arcadia, FL.
Fred maintained a life-long love of sports, specifically basketball and softball. He was a member of the 1967 state champion Bill Dunfee Chevrolet softball team. Later in life he enjoyed golf and tennis and maintaining his perfectly groomed lawn. He was a founding member of the Spencer Township (Jennings Co.) Volunteer Fire Department.
Fred had a friendly and outgoing nature, so he never met a stranger. His antics and humor will be missed by his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be scheduled at a later date.
