Newest Columbus firefighter sworn in

Taylorsville native Cody Melton, 25, was sworn in as Columbus’ newest firefighter by Mayor Jim Lienhoop at Tuesday’s Board of Public Works and Safety meeting.

Melton will immediately begin a Columbus Fire Department orientation program which will conclude with a station and shift assignment.

A 2014 graduate of Columbus East High School. Melton previously served four years as a volunteer with the German Township Volunteer Fire Department, and Clay Township Fire Department, three years with Harrison Township Fire Department and two years with the Edinburgh Fire Department.

Melton is a state-certified Basic Emergency Medical Technician. He also holds state certifications including firefighter I, firefighter II, fire officer strategy and tactics and fire instructor I. Melton also has obtained numerous driver operator certifications and National Incident Management Systems certifications.
