Alabama driver arrested on drug-related charges after traffic stop

A driver from Alabama was arrested on multiple methamphetamine-related charges after a traffic stop at 11:55 p.m. Tuesday on southbound I-65 near the 76 mile marker.

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Deputy Dylan Prather was monitoring traffic on southbound I-65 when he initiated a traffic stop. During the traffic stop, K9 Szabi was deployed and alerted to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle, deputies said.

The driver, who originally gave Prather a false name, was later identified as Whitney Aalfs, 34, Alabama, deputies said. Aalfs was found to be in possession of narcotics and drug-related paraphernalia, deputies said. In addition, she had outstanding arrest warrants.

Other items located included identification cards belonging to other people, license plates from various states and mail belonging to more than 24 different people, deputies said. The United States Postal Service has been contacted. The investigation is ongoing.

Aalfs was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of:

Dealing in methamphetamine

Possession of methamphetamine

Identity deception

Maintaining a common nuisance

False informing

Possession of marijuana

Possession of paraphernalia

Possession of a schedule IV controlled substance

Possession of a schedule III controlled substance

Two out-of-county warrants

She remains in the Bartholomew County Jail, held without bond.
