Allan ‘Big Al’ Major

COLUMBUS

Allan “Big Al” Major, 58, of Columbus, passed away at 1:22 a.m. Monday, November 1, 2021 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Allan was born November 3, 1962, in Martinsville, Indiana, the son of James H and Carolyn A. Oldham Major.

Allan graduated from Columbus East High School in 1981. In his younger years Allan worked as a bagger for the JC Food Store and was a client of Developmental Services Inc. along with Stone Belt. He attended Asbury United Methodist Church. Allan participated in the Special Olympics where he excelled at track and field, basketball and tennis. He enjoyed listening to music and watching professional wrestling. Allan loved spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his kindness, good heart and Christian faith.

Survivors include his father, James “Jim” Major (his companion, Janet Tyre); brothers, John O. (Polly) Major, Mark A. (Jill) Major, all of Columbus; nieces and nephews, Tyson Moore, Hannah Moore, McKenna Major, Harry Major, Luke Major, Josh Major and Ben Major.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn.

The funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Friday at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Nick Robinson officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the funeral home. A live stream of the funeral service may be viewed at 12:00 p.m. Friday at barkesweaverglick.com.

Burial will be at Nebo Memorial Park in Martinsville, Indiana. Family and friends may gather there for a graveside service Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. with John B. “J.B.” O’Neal officiating.
