Man arrested after scuffle with officers

Columbus police arrested a wanted man Saturday morning after a scuffle left two officers with minor injuries.

At approximately 10:50 a.m., CPD officers responded to a residence in the 2600 block of 23rd Street in regards to a warrant service. When the officers arrived, they observed Kurtis J. Chaplin, 35, of 2615 23rd St., who was seated outside the residence. said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Chaplin was uncooperative with officers when they made contact with him and he refused to put his hands behind his back, Harris said. A scuffle ensued a short time later and two CPD officers received minor injuries while arresting Chaplin, Harris said.

Chaplin was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital for jail clearance and later transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on the following preliminary charges:

Two Bartholomew County warrants

Battery on police officer with injury

Resisting law enforcement causing bodily injury

Intimidation

Chaplin was being held in jail in lieu of $32,000 bond, jail officials said.
